“The Father of Waters again goes unvexed to the sea" - President Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln once remarked, “Vicksburg is the key! The war can never be brought to a close until that key is in our pocket.” Vicksburg was a vital stronghold strategically situated on the Mississippi River. When Confederate General Pemberton surrendered Vicksburg to Union General Grant on July 4, 1863, it cut the Confederacy in two and led to subsequent strategic conquests in the Confederacy. The capture of Vicksburg was a critical event in the American Civil War, yet it was quickly overshadowed by the Battle of Gettysburg and remains so to this day. Join us for a presentation on the 47-day siege of Vicksburg, and a presentation of period uniforms, equipment, and gear from the American Civil War.
